Skills Naturally

Ten years ago, Maplewood began a relationship with the founder of Skills Naturally, Kathy Ciliberto. Kathy is a seasoned professional with years of experience working with children in the classroom environment. She brought her skills to Maplewood by assisting campers in a one-on-one relationship. Over the years, we have been able to see the positive effects her relationships have had with the campers. We are very excited to be partnering with Kathy and her staff in order to expand this program. Please see below to learn more:

What is Skills Naturally?
Skills Naturally is a social support team at Maplewood Country Day Camp & Enrichment Center.  Our mission is to provide one-on-one coaching and social support to meet the diverse needs of Maplewood’s campers.

Skills Naturally

What is the role of our staff at Maplewood?
Our staff are called “Skills Trainers” because our daily work involves training campers on how to utilize social skills and coping strategies to navigate their routines and interactions with the goal of full camp participation. We work in conjunction with Maplewood staff, including camp directors, head counselors, and junior counselors to ensure that every camper can have a
successful experience at camp.

Who can Skills Trainers help?
Most of the campers we work with have identified social/emotional needs that are addressed through an IEP or a 504 plan in the school setting.  In order to inform the Maplewood directors of your camper's needs, parents and families will have the opportunity to share important information about their child when completing the online parent questionnaire.

In addition, our skills trainers “float” throughout Maplewood assisting campers who have not been previously identified as needing support.  In these cases, families are notified of our observations and a meeting is planned to discuss how best to meet the child’s needs.
